Coming Soon: Firefighter/Paramedic Trainee Sponsorship Opportunity

The American Canyon Fire Protection District is excited to announce an upcoming opportunity for those seeking a career in firefighting. We will soon be accepting applications for candidates who hold a Paramedic credential interested in being sponsored through a recognized fire academy. Successful candidates who complete the academy will begin an 18-month probationary period at the starting salary for a Firefighter with a Paramedic Credential.

The Academy is scheduled for January 2025, with exact dates to be announced.

This position is considered a temporary, non-sworn, unrepresented, at-will in the Fire District. Incumbents are assigned to the Fire Academy and must satisfactorily pass all the requirements of the Firefighter Training Academy before becoming candidates for the sworn position of Fire Fighter/ Paramedic. Assignment to this classification is temporary. Incumbents who do not complete the Firefighter Training Academy within the time established for completion will be terminated.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

  • Valid State of California Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) license at the time of application.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Some college-level fire science coursework and/or previous experience as a Volunteer or Paid Firefighter is desirable.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current and passing written test score from the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC).
  • Current and valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate.
  • Valid California Driver's License with Firefighter Endorsement (if appropriate) or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Current National Registry certification as an EMT-P, or ability to obtain California Paramedic certification within 60 days of appointment.
  • Out-of-state candidates: Must have a valid National Registry certification at the time of application and a valid State of California Paramedic License by the time of appointment.
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for BLS providers.
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent by the date of appointment.
  • Adherence to established safety and health principles relevant to rescue and emergency medical response.
  • Knowledge of state and local laws, regulations, and codes related to emergency medical services.
