Public Works

Public Works provides for the health, safety and comfort of all American Canyon residents, workers and visitors on a daily basis. Public Works is responsible for park & facility maintenance, engineering services, streets and traffic, water and sewer.

Community Development

Community Development consists of three Divisions: Building and Safety, Housing and Planning. Community Development is responsible for issuing Building Permits and building-related inspection services; affordable housing and monitoring; City Planning/Zoning and conducts development review, public outreach and environmental analysis.

Finance

Finance provides fiscal control of the City’s financial activities, including revenue expenditure, fixed assets, investment of the City’s funds and other financing programs. It assists all departments in the preparation and implementation of the two-year budget, capital improvement program receipt of revenues, payment of bills and payroll.

Human Resources

Human Resources is responsible for attracting, retaining and developing a highly-qualified and diverse City workforce and implementing organizational policies and procedures.

City Clerk

The City Clerk is the local official for elections, local legislation, the Public Records Act, the Political Reform Act and the Brown Act (open meeting laws). Before and after the City Council takes action, the City Clerk ensures that actions are in compliance with all federal, state and local statutes and regulations and that all actions are properly executed, recorded and archived.

City Attorney

The City Attorney advises and represents the City Council and City staff on all legal matters. He prepares ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, bond indentures and other legal documents. The City contracts with the Law Firm of William D. Ross as the principal legal adviser of the city.

 

Public Safety

Police Department

The Police Department is responsible for maintaining law and order in the City. The City of American Canyon contracts with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services. The Sheriff’s Office provides the City with a Captain for the role of the Police Chief, four supervisors at the rank of Sergeant, and 19 Deputy Sheriffs to serve as Police Officers. The officer’s assignments include patrol shifts, K9 units, traffic-motorcycle unit, school resource officers and community resources officer.

Fire District

The American Canyon Fire Protection District serves the entire American Canyon community. We serve our citizens and residential neighborhoods, individuals employed by our local businesses and recreational visitors to our parks, trails and open spaces.
